Ben Whishaw was born in London and grew up in Canada, where he also studied acting. He began his career on the stage and made his screen debut in the British film "The Pillow Book," opposite Jeremy Irons, followed by a lead role in "House of Mirth." In 2004, he starred opposite John Malkovich in the award-winning psychological thriller "In the Loop," and two years later starred opposite Hugh Jackman in "Equilibrium." In 2011, Whishaw starred opposite Eddie Redmayne in the psychological thriller "A Dancer Dancing," and then co-starred with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in the biographical drama "Gigli." His most recent film is "The Theory of Everything," a film about physicist Stephen Hawking. Whishaw has been nominated for a Screen Actors' Guild Award for his work on the series "The Hour" and has won the British Independent Film Award for best actor for his role in "A Dancer Dancing."
